Paul Ellis, Stone Carver & Mason.

My workshop is in Devon and I have 36 years experience in the craft of stone masonry and the art of carving stone.

During my career I have been fortunate and privileged to work upon many historical buildings throughout the United Kingdom, continually learning and sharing with many fine craftspeople. This has included over 23 years spent in 3 Cathedral workshops as well as 13 years employment for a number of stone companies.

My CV is the work I have produced, it is written literally in stone across the country. You may see some of it here on my website.

Because of the passion I have for my profession and the enjoyment and satisfaction it brings, I can honestly say that “I love my work and consider it to be more a joy than a job.”

The medieval carver drew inspiration for his work through his faith, the world and people around him. But most of all, through his imagination, he carved and brought to life the buildings he worked on. In that same tradition, all of my carvings have a tale behind them which I am enthusiastic to share with others. I am often asked, and happy to give talks about my work.

I hope you enjoy viewing my website. Should you require any of my skills or services, I look forward to hearing from you.

Also please say that Nelson is sited next to a medieval carving of an African, a lovely connection across time. Nobody knows who the medieval carving was but now he has the company of a fellow African, who everyone will remember for his amazing life and achievements. #Nelson Mandela #South Africa #Freedom and Peace ...

Nelson became an addition to the restoration project we we’re working on at the cathedral. I’m not sure if there ever was a press release about it in his homeland, if anyone knows anyone from South Africa please tell them that he’s on Lincoln Cathedral. # Nelson Mandela #South Africa ...

I heard that it was Nelson Mandela day today, I remember at his passing carving him to acknowledge his amazing life and achievements, a truly good man who personally endured so much but gave so much to so many🙏#Nelson Mandela # South Africa # Freedom and Peace ...
